… Fiat/Chrysler Figured it Out!
I’m a big fan of “Flipboard” a simple app that curates news stories on your PC or mobile device. Flipboard is really the modern day replacement for a traditional news reader, a simple way to create a Personal Magazine.
It make RSS feeds look great with stunning visual appeal – http://flipboard.com
I have my own personal curated list of industry categories that I follow and today an “Automotive” story caught my eye.
The Mad Genius Of Killing The Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200
The author of the story was giving props to the CEO of Chrysler for Killing a product line that sold a quarter million cars last year in the US.
It seems crazy to throw away 265,000 sales, but FCA is leaving money on the table by not building more profitable vehicles. The Wirecutter’s Senior Autos Editor (and former Autoblogger) John Neff agrees. “As bold as it looks from the outside, he’s really making a safe bet that their money is better spent on designing better and building more crossovers and trucks. He’s probably right about that.”
The Mad Genius of Spending Time Marketing What Makes You Money
Read that sentence again and think about how it applies to you.
The vehicles that make big money – Ram trucks; Jeep’s Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler – can’t be made fast enough. FCA can’t afford to idle the 200’s Sterling Heights, MI, assembly plant to cut back on inventory when other plants are running flat out.
Are You Making the Same Mistake?
- What % of your time each day is spent on activities that don’t earn money?
- What products and services that you provide earn the most PROFIT?
- What % of your time is spent on marketing your profitable products?
Staying focused on what earns money is hard and takes effort. It’s an easy trap to fall into, no matter what size business.
So before you get immersed in another cool project, or buying a Bright Shinny Object ask yourself this one question…
Is this the best use of my time, money and efforts?
